I came up with the idea of the Santa Cruz Fringe Festival quite easily. As an artist, I have performed my one-woman show in several Fringe Festivals over the years. Each Fringe is different, but the vibe is the same—fun, edgy, unexpected, and an abundance of stimulating live art. Fringes are a great way to tour your work, or to present your work much more cheaply than you could on your own. Santa Cruz is a perfect community for a Fringe as there is already so much talent and art here--the Fringe provides a new avenue for Santa Cruzians to do their groovy thing. And for out-of-towners, there is a reason why people vacation here--it’s gorgeous! Come have a working vacation, and soak in lots of sun and surf in between performing and going to other artists’ shows. As a fellow performance artist, please know that I have your back! I am working to provide you with the best possible performance opportunity, and I do this out of love—my love for my home and community, and my love of performance. |

Best Transplanted Santa Cruzan "A choreographer and producer, Mills moved to Santa Cruz from New York City in 2010, and it didn't take her much longer than a year to give our laid-back beach town some big-city cultural cachet. As the founder of the Santa Cruz Fringe Festival, Mills overaw 42 shows over the course of a couple weeks and gave dozens of local and regional artists the change to try out offbeat, risk-taking productions of all varieties (from ballet to circus to stand-up comedy.) These days, Mills is the artist-in-residence at the 418 Project and is busy putting together the second annual Fringe Festival, which will draw acts from all over the US, including Colorado, Hawaii and Georgia." |
